How much does a small business website cost in 2026?

The honest answer is a range, because "a website" can mean a $17-a-month template you build on a Sunday or a $40,000 agency project. What decides it is who does the work and what you need the site to do.

The four ways to get a small business website

Upfront and monthly cost by route. Builder prices are from each company's own pricing page; freelancer and agency ranges are Wix's estimates. Read November 8, 2026.

The freelancer and agency ranges come from Wix's cost breakdown, which, like GoDaddy's, gives no survey behind its numbers. Treat them as a rough guide, not market data.

What website builders charge

On their own pricing pages, read November 8, 2026:

  • Wix: Light $17, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 a month, billed yearly. Wix notes that prices vary by location.
  • Squarespace: Basic $19, Core $29 and Advanced $99 a month billed yearly, or $25, $39 and $139 month to month.
  • WordPress.com: Personal $4, Premium $8, Business $25 and Commerce $45 a month billed yearly, or $9 to $70 month to month.
  • Hostinger: from $1.99 a month when you prepay 48 months, renewing at $10.99 a month.

The subscription is the small part. The real cost is the hours you spend picking a template, writing every page, and getting the site to show up when someone nearby searches for what you do.

What moves the price

  • Number of pages. A five-page site and a 40-page site are different jobs.
  • Who writes the words. Copywriting is often the slowest part, and it is easy to forget in a quote.
  • Features that do something: online booking, payments, a quote form that texts you, a chat box.
  • Custom design versus a well-built template.
  • What happens after launch: hosting, updates, fixes and who you call when something breaks.

The cost after launch

A site keeps costing money after it goes live. GoDaddy's guide puts the running cost for a small business at $145 to $640-plus a year, and Wix lists shared hosting at $5 to $20 a month and business email at $6 to $15 per person a month. What maintenance plans cost, and what they cover, is in our website maintenance cost guide.

Which route makes sense

  • DIY builder: you have the time, you like doing it, and the site mainly needs to exist.
  • Freelancer: you want something custom and can manage the project yourself.
  • Agency: you need a large or complex site and have the budget.
  • Flat-fee done-for-you: you want a working site without running the project. Nova Solutions builds a five-page site for $600 plus $149 a month, live in about seven days, with lead capture, text-back and review requests on the higher plans.
